Sunday, March 30, 2521. Kristine.
What a mess.
Well, maybe the state of Alki's bedroom, but outside of that, the messes she got into. It's like she attracts as much attention back then as she does now. jake himself had been lurking around a corner, cigarette in his mouth, and his hands jammed in his pockets as his icy blue eyes peered around the area.
Anybody who passed by would find that hulking shadow watching then as they moved. It was kind of creepy in a way. Either way, the man shifted the cigarette in his mouth before leaning back on the wall, just watching, waiting....
Also, thinking.

While Jake loitered in a corner, enter obligatory prostitute joke here Kris was just inside the company building, handling a few pieces of paperwork.
After tossing her signature here and there, and snapping at Dewie to get his trembling ass in gear, she stepped out of the main double doors of the building and looked at Jake. "Sorry about that. Paperwork." She said, adjusting her jacket cuff. Normally, she didn't bother explaining herself to her employees, but something about Jake made her feel obligated to shed at least a little light.
"Anyway, come on. I have decided to take the rest of the day off from official business." She said, walking down the sidewalk. Normally, she hailed Dewie to drive her, but she was walking this time. Peculiar.

Jake looked over when Kristine finally headed out. Ah, so there she was. She was probably busy bossing Dewey around as per usual. Jake wanted to be there himself to just glare at the man and make him terrified again, but he decided against it. Plus, he was smoking and he has his own rules about smoking in public buildings.
Jake dropped the cigarette butt on the ground and stamped on it to snuff it out as Kristine spoke to him. He then nodded to her as she explained the situation and he then put his weight on the ground, standing up straight.
"The day off, hn." He murmured. Great, what to do for the rest of the day, go kill some people? He chewed his lip a moment before finally speaking up. "Any reason why we're walking?" He'd mention bossing Dewie around but that was already getting old.

"Primarily? Because I feel like walking today. Though I fear you do your job too well, and Dewie has been suffering from a little more anxiety than normal." She explained as she kept a smooth pace. "But mostly, I simply do feel the desire to walk. After your daughter's rescue, it became apparent that I was rather out of shape, so I have decided to drive a little less and walk a bit more."
She chuckled softly as she walked, another rarity for her. "I was thinking maybe we could just walk and talk for a while." She said, glancing back to him. "Unless you find my company unpleasant?" She gave him a playful look. She knew he didn't mind her company. He was more than able to provide for him and his daughter without her employment, yet his stuck around.

Jake kept his hands in his pockets as Kristine spoke up, adjusting his own ridiculously fast pace to match with Kristine's. Of course he didn't need any reminding that Kristine... wasn't the most fit considering all the running that happened back when Alki was being rescued. He then adjusted his hat, keeping a cool demeanor.
"Well, small steps are a good start..." of course he didn't need any more reminding about Dewie either. but, hey... he didn't mind walking and talking. Unless she was trying to get him to a quieter location to jump him ask him way more private questions relating to his own past.
"... No I don't. Unless you're too unfit to keep up with my pace." Even if Jake was deadpan and serious most of the time, he did show a bit of amusement towards her comment.
Heh.
"Alki's fairly back to what she usually does, now. That is... get in trouble."

"I have been considering a treadmill, however I do not have that much spare time to devote to its use." Kris continued, thinking aloud. "So I will have to find some alternate way to return to fitness without expending too much time." She let out a small noise and shrugged.
Kris thought to Dewie. A very trembly man who intimidated easily. Still, he was a good driver. He knew how to maneuver any kind of vehicle in most situations, which made him valuable.
Don't worry Jake, while Kris wanted to know more, she wasn't going to pry into that particular bit. In all honesty, she just wanted to talk in general.
She looked at Jake as he mentioned his faster pace and she smiled. "I'll have you know I'm no where near as bad as I was back then." She boasted, swinging her hips as she walked in a teasing manner.
When the topic drifted to Alki, Kris's wry smile shifted into a soft all-around smile. "She's a beautiful girl, very strong. She's been adapting well and I am glad to hear she is back to normal, all things considered." Her smile became a little more sad. "I must admit, Jake. I'm rather envious. I've always wanted a child of my own. I love Alex, don't get me wrong, but in the end she is not truly mine."

Jake quickly glanced at Kristine. Treadmills? They still had treadmills at this date? He figured there had to be some sort of futuristic weight loss and exercise program that they had. Outside of... dodging bullets from fighting Megamen. He shrugged at her comment. Either way, she'd have to devote some time to exercising either way.
Jake has to when he eats too much cake anyway. He didn't know what Kristine wanted to converse about, but he was pretty open with her this time, outside of him not saying a word about his past to her. He just wanted to forget about it.
"You sure about that?" Jake smirked at her comment. Dem hips. Of course, she mentioned Alki and his eyes sort of went very distant and spacey when she spoke about her and wanting kids.
"... I know what you mean. Alki's strong willed like her mother." He then paused, snapping back when Kristine spoke about Alex and kids. "it doesn't matter to me, though. All children deserve a parent, even if they're not related. At least you have her."

Kris, being as stubborn as she is, will likely look for any legitimate way to get back in shape quickly and with little time spent. It would take more thought.
Kristine herself was unsure what she wanted to talk about, all she knew was that she just wanted to talk to Jake more. There were so few people she could actually talk too. There was Xe, but he was dead, so that left Uriah and Alex. Alex was a mite young and Uriah was...well, Uriah. Hopefully Jake could fill that recess in her life that she was trying to deal with.
She smiled slyly as she flaunted those curves walked along. "Oh I'm quite sure." She almost purred. She glanced back again as she spoke and saw Jake's expression. Her own shifted into one of mild curiosity and confusion.
Once the conversation picked back up, she smiled softly. "She's a brilliant young woman, and I can see her going very far if she has the right guidance." She then listened as Jake spoke about his opinion on children. "I suppose. I am grateful I have Alex. I'm sure without her, I'd have probably withered into some hard-assed old crone." She answered, then chuckled. "Instead I'm a hard-assed mother, which I must say is rather helpful sometimes."

Well, Jake was glad he didn't have to do too much exercise despite his own modifications. His physical strength was already way up there and he didn't have to eat too much since the ZX Scientists couldn't do much outside of correcting whatever mistakes Rufus did back then. Jake looked over at Kris again.
"it's going to take a long time. Her childhood wasn't stellar." Neither was Jake's, and he tried his hardest to help her. "She's definitely smart though. Got all the good genes from her mom and I. Except the red hair."
Jake had to remind himself of his Irish origins, hah. Jake looked around, checking out the scenery. Nothing much now, just some buildings. It was pretty quiet though, which felt good for him. Peace and quiet.
"Perhaps. I don't know what I'd do without Alki." Without Alki, maybe Lyra would still be alive, but... Ben would have found out at some point, would he? ... Which meant Jake might have completely gone down the deep end. "... She's probably the only nice thing I had in my hellish life.""

Kris didn't eat too much herself, as she was normally on the go, which was likely the only reason why she was still as thin as she was. When Jake looked at her, she met his gaze; it was softer than her normal harsh look of 'do as I say and do it now'. It was more friendly, less professional.
"Some scars never heal, I fear. I hope there is something I can do to help her." Kris said, curious about Alki's childhood; she made a personal vow not to pry into such things. She was trying to learn about Jake as a person, not Jake as in a drama story. She smiled warmly as Jake mentioned Alki's mother, and chuckled softly as he commented on the red hair. "I think she'd look good with your hair, though she is still just as pretty."
She nodded silently, listening to Jake talk about his daughter. Again with a hint at his past. It tore her apart, keeping herself from asking, but she wasn't going to. Not now. She wasn't going to open that can of worms until they has established a relationship.
Kris came to a stop before a particular building, standing by the door until Jake realized she had ceased walking. Once he did so, she reached for the door handle and was about to step inside, assuming Jake would be following.

Jake made a mental note not to talk too much about his past. he was the silent brooding type anyway, but he wouldn't try and remind himself all the time... even if the scars were there physically and mentally THESE WOUNDS THEY WILL NOT HEAL. Jake also tried to imagine Alki with red hair.
"... Huh." Jake's face screwed up trying to think about it, but he shook his head. "It's strange to think about Alki with red hair, even if it's about as messy as mine." Of course the man brightened up a bit... as bright as stoic would be anyway, before he noticed they were heading up to a building.
"Don't mind me." Jake then reached for the door to push it and hold it open for Kristine. Hell no he wasn't going to let a lady open a door by herself. I may have Irish blood, but I'm still a southern gentleman.

PERFECTIOOON IN STEEEEEEL Kris was having no trouble picturing Alki with red hair, though she was also the one who was constantly imagining new inventions or random tinkering items.
She giggled lightly as Jake made a face of concentration as he attempted to envision his daughter as a redhead. "It's not that messy. Though you never take that hat off, so I could be wrong." If Jake was a little lower, or she was a little higher, she would have then snatched his hat to accent her point, but she didn't.
She smiled at Jake as he held the door for her, and stepped inside. She waited right inside the door for Jake, not venturing further until he was in as well. If he'd pay attention, he'd notice that they had stepped inside an icecream shop.
Kris casually walked up to the counter and skimmed the various flavors they provided. She'd cast a glance at Jake to see what he was doing.

"Well I like my hat on my head, thanks." Cue awkward stoic glance. Of course he was glad he was ridiculously tall.
Jake himself just jammed his hands back in his pocket, stepping inside quickly next to Kristine. Then some poor unsuspecting fellow slammed their face into the door as it closed shut. Jake just stared at him and then looked back to Kristine. Ice cream shop, huh?
Jake didn't feel like ice cream, though, but he scanned his eyes across the various flavors that they had, until his eyes feasted upon one of the greatest delicacies that he had ever had in his life.
Cake.
Jake glanced away from the cake, only to look back at it as it continued to mock his prescence with it's.... cakeness. Jake then bit the inside of his lip. Man it looked so good.... but he has to resist this temptation of sugar! ... He didn't want to look greedy or unmanly with his cake eating habit... but...
I am a very delicious and moist cake you must eat me now. The cake suddenly spoke to him in his head in a seductive voice. Jake took all of his energy to try and keep his face straight. He would not waver!
He really hoped Kristine would quickly pick out her flavor so the cake would stop mocking him.

As Kris was debating between a plain vanilla cone or trying a mix of the banana and chocolate, she glanced to Jake and noticed that he kept looking at something. She followed his gaze to the cooler, where the shop kept some cakes. Some full sized, others in plastic containers for single people.
She looked away and began mulling back over her icecream selection. If Jake really wanted it, there was no shame in him buying one. After all, here she was, the stoic hard-ass of Xentech, buying an icecream cone like a little girl.
Still... She looked back at Jake as the woman behind the counter busied herself with wiping off the 'cold stone' where they mixed the icecreams together and added things like chocolate or candy. Finally, Kris couldn't resist the urge to speak up after telling the woman to mix chocolate and Banana together for a medium cone. "You know Jake, if you want something, there's no harm is getting it." She raised an eyebrow. She suspected his desire for a pastry, but she was still unsure. He never struck her as the kind to repress his wants, especially something as mundane as a sugary item.
Had Jake been Alex, she would have paid for the cake that she knew he so wanted, but she also knew that he had too much pride to accept such a charity and he had a couple paychecks under his belt. He could get it himself. Instead, she accepted her cone and handed a currency card to the cashier. She glanced back over to Jake and, if he still hadn't gotten the item he was clearly pining for, she'd accept her card again and walk up to him. Looking in the case to ensure that was what he had been looking at, she looked back up at him. "It's just a cake you big baby. if you want one, get one. I'll meet you outside." After a rather playful punch on the arm, she stepped outside, licking her cone much like a child would, without caring how silly she looked.

Jake was busy having an evil staring contest with a whole cake that looked remarkably like Red Velvet, which was his favorite type. Finally Kristine spoke up as she noticed his all out battle with it. Eventually he waited for Kristine to finish up with her payment.
"I'm not a big baby..." He protested, before flicking the currency card he had almost professionally on the counter. "I want that whole cake." Which probably received awkward faces from people. They still obliged since he could afford it anyway, and Jake took the cake, holding the plastic plate under his left forearm, a fork in his right hand, and then went outside.
"You win this war, cake..." Jake muttered to himself as he pushed the door open with his foot... and then began stuffing his face with the delicious baked good, not caring if he looked absolutely piggish. And the fact he got cake all over his beard. Which make him look even more ridiculous.
